Champions League: Arsenal wins, United, Barca and Porto settles for draw - February 24,2009

A goal from the penalty spot taken by Van Persie was all the gunners needed to beat AC Roma of Italy. Van Persie was fouled by Philippe Mexes in the 37^th minutes of play and was rewarded with penalty which he converted.

The Arsenal that played Roma was a better side to watch as they had better ball possessions and dominate play for the greater part of the game.  

The second half kicked of with only nine of the eleven players Arsenal in the field with Gallas receiving treatment moment before the start of the second half; as usual Toure was the last to come out of the dressing room.

The other matches ended in draws

Italy, the classic of the day was the match between two league leaders Manchester United who currently leads the premiership with 62points seven over Liverpool who is second place  and Inter leading  Serie A with  59 points nine point over Juventus.

Mourinho going into Tuesday game with a good record against the Sir Alex Ferguson led Manchester United was once again lucky to have secured a draw at the San Siro stadium. the visitors wasted no time in settling down with Giggs and Carrick taking charge in the midfield.  Five minutes into the match a classical header from Cristain Ronaldo current FIFA World footballer was saved by Julio Cesar.

With the match ending 0-0 Manchester United thus break the record they shared with

Ajax Amsterdam and Bayern Munich as having played 20 champions league game with no defeat.

France, Liga leader Barca needed a second half header from Thierry Henry to escape what would have been a painful defeat in the hand delightful Lyon side. Juninho had earlier put the host ahead with a brilliant and well taken free kick which beat Victor Valdes in goal for Barcelona.

Madrid, FC Porto came from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw. Atletico Madrid had gone ahead in the fourth minute through Maxi off a pass from Sergio Aguero but Lopez equalized for Porto in the 22^nd minute.

An injury time strike by Forlan restored Atletico’s lead again Lopez was on target for Porto in the 75^th minute to level the game and taking his goal tally to six.
