Spain

Barcelona continues their dominance in Europe after a 5-2 goal feast at the Camp Nou stadium. Barca took the lead with a Thierry Henry quick double before Eto’o, Messi and Keita sealed their magnificent night over the Lyon.

However the night was not all cool for the Catalans as the French champions scored at either side of the interval. Goals from Jean Macoun and Brazilian Juninho gave Lyon a life line to hold on. But, it proved not enough for the French champions who had their playmaker Juninho sent off in the final minute.

England

In a game that was dubbed as a fight between the two best managers in the world, sir Alex’s  Manchester united were able to defeat Jose Mourinho’s inter Milan by convincing fashion. A header from defender Nemanja Vidic and world player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo was enough to see off the Italian champions. Ibrahimovic gave United’s defense a scare on more than one occasion but van der sar made sure the champions continued their unbeaten run in the champions league dating back from the beginning of last season.

Italy

Arsenal just managed to squeeze into the quarter finals after a close game against A S Roma, that ended in a dramatic penalty shoot out. The Italians took the lead just ten minutes in the game after defenders Kolo Toure and William Gallas failed to clear the ball from a Totti cross. Brazilian Juan striked the ball past Almunia to tie the game on aggregate. Both teams failed to score anymore goals as the game headed towards extra time and further a penalty shoot out. The shoot out went to sudden death after misses from Eduardo and Vucinic left the teams on level terms. Totti and Toneto also missed for Roma giving arsenal the edge.

Portugal

A goalless game between Porto and Atletico Madrid was enough to see former champions Porto through to the last eight. Although Porto enjoyed most of the possession during the game, they were still unable to break the deadlock and had to go through due to the away goals rule. the teams were tied at two goals a piece from the first leg of the clash that took place in Madrid.
