Ban for Drogba reduced - July 16,2009

 

Ivorian international and Chelsea striker Didier Drogba along side team mate Bossinga got their suspension reduced by the UEFA Appeals body. The duos that were earlier sanctioned for their unsportsmanlike behavior towards Tom Henning Ovrebo after their Champions elimination by eventual champions Barcelona.

 

By this verdict Drogba who pleaded his case successfully will miss the next five UEFA matches with the last two deferred for a probationary period of three years.  Bossinga will also serve a three match suspension with the last one deferred for a probationary period of three years.

 

Drogba and Bossinga were both fined €15,000 and €10,000 respectively. The initial €100,000   fine handed down to Chelsea by the disciplinary committee stands for the unruly behavior of the fans and unprofessional conduct of their players. Chelsea had appeal the decision but later withdrew the appeal.
