Le Guen named Cameroon boss - July 16,1999

Paul Le Guen is the new head coach of Cameroon. The appointment was made on Wednesday and announced by that country’s state radio service.

“Paul Le Guen will sign a six-month contract with the Cameroon government to coach the national team,” stated the report.

His only objective will be to get the Indomitable Lions into the World Cup finals. They are currently five points back of leaders Gabon in African qualifying Group A and will face the Azingo Nationale in their next competitive match on September 5.

Le Guen replaces Thomas Nkono, who succeeded Otto Pfister at the helm of the national team. Pfister took Cameroon to the final of the 2008 African Nations Cup, where they lost to Egypt.
