Under 17, Nigeria handed a tough group - August 7,2009

 

 

After months of baby mama drama the Jack Warner led FIFA inspection team gave Nigeria a clean bill of health in hosting the FIFA Under- 17 World Cup. It did not come easy as ultimatum and threat of withdrawal was issued unless the governments of Nigeria pledge their support. The pledge was finally given and on returning to Nigeria jack Warner said this “I'm very happy with what I've seen up to this point in time; I believe Nigeria is on track," said Warner, who is also the chairman of the Under-17 World Cup's organizing committee.

"I've gone all over the country with my Fifa delegation, and everything that we have seen and the decisions we have taken relative to the eight venues has made me very optimistic that Nigeria is ready.

The draw which took place on August 7, 2009 in Abuja. Will see Nigeria the host Nation and the current defending champion of the under 17 take on Germany in the opening game in a group that many consider as the group of death.
