CONCACAF Champions League set to resume - August 23,2009

Group Stage play in the CONCACAF Champions League resumes this week, and three-time winners Pachuca will be looking to get their campaign on track after a surprising 4-1 to Arabe Unido in Panama on Wednesday.

Unido scored twice in each half in front of just 1,000 spectators at Estadio Augustin Sanchez and built a 3-0 lead before Paul Nicolas Aguilar pulled one back for the guests in the 78th minute. Reynaldo Lewis rounded out the scoring ten minutes later, and Unido also had goals from Orlando Rodriguez, Victor Mendieta and Manuel Mosquera.

Pachuca’s next match will be at home to Isidro Metapan of El Salvador on Tuesday. Metapan lost their first match of the Group phase at Houston Dynamo last week—a close, 1-0 encounter decided by Brian Ching’s 68th minute strike.

With three points and a superior goal differential, Unito lead Group A after one matchday, with Houston, Metapan and Pachuca rounding out the table.

In other Champions’ League matches, DC United will attempt to bounce back from a loss at Marathon when they host Toluca on Wednesday. Marathon will host San Juan Jabloteh in Group B’s other match.

In Group C, MLS champions Columbus Crew will look to build on last week’s 2-0 win over Puerto Rico Islanders when they visit Mexican giants Cruz Azul on Wednesday. Puerto Rico, meanwhile, will visit Costa Rican side Saprissa.

Trinidad & Tobago’s W Connection will open matchday two in Group D when they host Comunicaciones on Thursday. Mexican champions Pumas will travel to Real Espana later in the day.
