Elephants in South Africa 2010,Cameroun and Egypt keep hope Alive. - October 10,2009
Few weeks after the Black Star of Ghana became the first team to book a place in the FIFA World Cup finals taking place in South Africa through play off. Ivory Coast became the second team to trend that part. South Africa qualifies as a host nation.
A 67th minute strike from Chelsea and Ivorian international striker Didier Drogba within two minutes of coming in as substitute was good enough secure the elephant boys a place in the South Africa 2010. With the draw in Malawi the elephants of Ivory Coast thus make their second consecutive World Cup appearance with Germany 2006 being their first.
Ivory Coast is ranked first in Africa and twenty (20th) in FIFA/Coca cola World Ranking.
Cameroun thrashed Togo 3-0 in Yaoundé to keep their hope of reaching the world finals in alive. Before going into today’s game the indomitable lions of Cameroon lead their group with 7 points a point ahead of their closest rival Gabon.
The Samuel Eto’o led Cameroon side knew nothing short of victory is acceptable to Cameroonian home and abroad. First half goal from Geremi and a second half goals from Makoun and Emana were all they needed to consolidate their one lead advantage over Gabon who also defeated Morocco by 3-1 in Libreville.
It was a big win for Egypt in zambia. Hosny Abd Rabou 68th minute goal gave the current Africa champion the much needed boost and hope of qualifying for South Africa 2010. Egypt seat in a not distance second position in the table at 10 points from 5 games same as Algeria who with 4 games is having 10points. Algeria plays Rwanda on Sunday.
