Messi wins FIFA Player of the Award - December 21,2009

 Lionel Messi has been crowned FIFA World Player of the Year. The prestigious award took place at a ceremony held on Monday in Zurich.

 The Barcelona and Argentine  forward was an a essential element and pivotal in piloting Barcelona  to six trophies this year: Spanish Cup, league, Champions League, Spanish Super Cup, European Super Cup and World Club cup.

In winning the award Lionel Messi beat off competition from last year winner Cristian Ronaldo, kaka and team Xavi and Iniesta thus becoming the first argentine to win the title.

It is a great footballing year for Messi who before the FWPA has received the Golden Ball, the Onze d’Or, best forward and best player in the Champions League and best player in the World Club Cup.
