Mido, Zaki and Aboutrika out Nations Cup - December 31,2009

 

Hassan Shehata the coach for the Egyptian team, named his African Cup of Nations squad without returning Zamalek striker Mido.

Mido was initially included in the 32 man squad and was expected fill in for injured club mate Amr Zaki, but when coach Hassan Shehata named his final 23 man squad Mido‘s name was dropped.

The uncrowned African footballer of the year and current BBC African Footballer of the year Mohammed Aboutrika was also left out due to injury.

Walid Soliman, Mohamed Shaaban, Hazem Emam, Ahmed Samir Farag, Ahmed Adel, Mostafa Shebeita and Sherif Abdul-Fadil all failed to make the final list.

News faces were added to the squad, Zamalek defender Mohamed Abdul-Shafi.

The reigning African champions will for Dubai on 1 January to continue training and play Mali in their final friendly three days later.

The Pharaoh's begin their Group C campaign against Nigeria on 12 January before taking on Mozambique and then Benin.

 

The full squad includes:

Goalkeepers: Essam Al-Hadari (Ismaili), Abdul-Wahed Al-Sayed (Zamalek), Mahmoud Aboul-Saoud (Mansoura).

Defenders: Wael Gomaa, Sayed Moawad, Ahmed Fathi (Ahli), Mahmoud Fathallah, Hani Saied, Mohamed Abdul-Shafi (Zamalek), Moatassem Salem (Ismaili), Ahmed Al-Muhammadi (ENPPI), Abdul-Zaher Al-Saqqa (Eskisehirspor, Turkey).

Midfielders: Ahmed Hassan (Ahli), Shikabala (Zamalek), Abdul-Aziz Tawfik (ENPPI), Ahmed Eid (Harras Hodoud), Hosni Abd-Rabou (Ahli, UAE), Hossam Ghaly (Nassr, Saudi Arabia).

Strikers: Emad Meteb (Ahli), Ahmed Raouf (ENPPI), Al-Sayed Hamdi (Petrojet), Geddo (Ittihad), Mohamed Zidan (Dortmund, Germany).
