Less than 48 hours the start of the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola, the bus carrying the Togolese national came under attack by gunmen, the ugly incident led to the death of the bus driver and leaving some players and travelling with the team wounded.

The bus was ambushed as it crossed into Cabinda from Democratic Republic of Congo, where they camped in preparation for the tournament.

"This was an act of terrorism," Cabinda affairs minister Bento Bembe told Reuters news agency.

The oil-rich Cabinda which is bordered by the Congos (Kinshasa and Brazzaville) have experienced fighting from separatist who wants to breakaway from Angola and form a nation of their own for various reasons, ranging from ethnic to economic.

The Front for the Liberation of the Enclave of Cabinda (FLEC) have claimed responsibility for the attack.

In a press conference, CAF the continent football regulating body and organizer of the African Cup of Nation insist that the tournament will go ahead as planned despite the ugly incident that took place.

For now no-one is sure if the Togolese team may be able to over come the traumatising experience and continue participation in the tournament or pull out of the competition. Togo is billed to play Ghana on Monday.
