Africa cup of Nations: Togo ‘we are in’ - January 9,2010
Hours withdrawing their national team (Sparrow Hawks) participation in the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola, In a show of strength and courage in place of fear and dismay, the Togolese players have resolve to continue their campaign in the Nations Cup taking place in Angola.
Speaking to AFP, Thomas Dossevi said, the players are staying behind to show their support for those who died in the cause of this journey.
after the announcement by the Togolese government that they are "We are all heartbroken, it is no longer a party, but we want to show our national colours, our values and that we are men," Thomas Dossevi said.
"It was a decision taken nearly unanimously by the team which met during the night after having been reassured by the Angolan authorities," he added.
On the otherhand, Alaixys Romao informed L’Equipe, "We have just had a meeting of the whole delegation and we will be on the pitch on Monday to face Ghana," he said.
"People have died for the Africa Cup of Nations, others have been injured. We can't let them down and leave like cowards," he added
Meanwhile, CAF President has assured all the teams taking part in the competition of increased security after receiving assurance from the government of Angola.
