The lions of Cameroon were handed a painful defeat by the Black Panthers of Gabon. The Gabonese had lost their last two encounters to the Cameroonian side during the world cup qualifiers.
Today’s meeting was the third in recent time for both teams and the Black Panthers were determined to take their pound of flesh from their familiar opponent.
In the 17th minute HullCity striker Daniel Cousin and captain of Gabon took advantage of Cameroonians defensive blunder to score the only goal of the match.
Prior to the game the Gabonese were seen as the outsider and the indomitable lions impressive run in their last four games since Coach Paul le Guen took charge did not help matters.
After the goal Samuel Eto and his Cameroon side mounted pressure after pressure on the Black Panthers defence but good defending and brilliant goalkeeping by goalkeeper Ovono Ebang stood the test.
With this result Cameroon thus become the third Africa FIFA World Cup bound team to suffer a shocking defeat.
The other group match involving Tunisia and Zambia ended 1-1
